Drinking to forget

I have licked foul surfaces to keep the party dancing

Spent my rent to keep my company enchanting.

I have snorted bumps of crystal rage.

Ingested whatever I could for a break from my cage.

I have traded in dignity for love potions from strangers

Ignoring my body’s warning signals of danger

I’ve chased the serpent down rabbit holes of filth

Avoiding myself, and the feelings that spilth

The manifestations can be painful when sober

So we gulp the poisons and forget we’re the broker
